Sub-Hourly to Daily Rainfall Intensity-Duration-Frequency Estimation Using Stochastic Storm Transposition and Discontinuous Radar Data

چکیده

Frequency analysis of rainfall data is essential in the design and modelling hydrological systems but often statistically limited by total observation period. With advances weather radar technology, frequency areal possible at a higher spatial resolution. Still, periods are short relative to established rain gauge networks. A stochastic framework, “stochastic storm transposition” shows great promise recreating statistics from products, similar gauge-derived statistics. This study estimates intensity–duration–frequency (IDF) relationships both point urban catchment scales. We use transposition framework single high-resolution, 17-year long (however, discontinuous), dataset. The IDF relations directly compared with more than 40 years observation, extremes derived original, untransposed, An overall agreement discovered, however, some discrepancies short-duration storms due scaling errors between radar.

extracting the intensity - duration – frequency curves with daily precipitation data using fractal theory

the intensity – duration – frequency (idf) curves play most important role in the hydraulic design of structures. the traditional method to construct idf curves has a long estimation process and also has high number of parameters which this property reduces the reliability of idf curves. in the traditional method, rainfall in different durations should be available until the extraction of idf c...

Physically-based extreme flood frequency with stochastic storm transposition and paleoflood data on large watersheds

Traditionally, deterministic flood procedures such as the Probable Maximum Flood have been used for critical infrastructure design. Some Federal agencies now use hydrologic risk analysis to assess potential impacts of extreme events on existing structures such as large dams. Extreme flood hazard estimates and distributions are needed for these efforts, with very low annual exceedance probabilit...

Intensity-Duration-Frequency (IDF) rainfall curves, for data series and climate projection in African cities

Changes in the hydrologic cycle due to increase in greenhouse gases cause variations in intensity, duration, and frequency of precipitation events. Quantifying the potential effects of climate change and adapting to them is one way to reduce urban vulnerability. Since rainfall characteristics are often used to design water structures, reviewing and updating rainfall characteristics (i.e., Inten...

Rainfall Intensity Estimation by Ground-Based Dual-Frequency Microwave Radiometers

Many investigators have used satellite data to derive rainfall intensity and to compare them with rain gauge data. However, there has always been a problem: what is the optimal time period for the two different types of data? A set of well-controlled data collected by ground-based dual-frequency microwave radiometers at the National Central University (24.98N, 121.18E) in Taiwan between January...
